The following instructions will help you configure the VPN. Please read the steps carefully and follow them step by step.
Note: Student or research assistants must set up two-factor authentication. Instructions for this can be found here:

1. Open a browser of your choice, e.g., Firefox, and go to the following website: https://vpnprofil.dshs-koeln.de/
2. Log in with your personal DSHS ID and the corresponding password (the same as for MySpoho).
3. After registering, you will be redirected to the website where you can click on the green “Download Cisco AnyConnect Client” button.
4. On the next page, please fill in the fields with your personal DSHS-ID and the corresponding password (the same as for MySpoho).
5. You will now be redirected to the website. Here you can download the VPN. Click on “Download for Mac.”
6. Launch the downloaded file to start the installation. Then click “Continue.”
7. In the next step, the software license agreement will be displayed. First, click on “Next.” Then accept the agreement by clicking on “Accept.”
8. Here you can see how much storage space is required for the installation. Click on “Install.”
9. Since this is a system-wide software installation, you will now be prompted to enter your local user data, which you also need to log in to your Mac. Enter your local user name as the “User Name” and the corresponding password as the “Password,” then start the installation by clicking “Install Software.”
10. The installation of Cisco Anyconnect is now complete. Click “Close” here.
11. The next step is to activate and approve the “SocketFilter” in the system settings. You will see several messages on the screen. The following window is important; click on “Allow” here.
12. The “System extension blocked” window should also appear. Please click on ‘Allow’ or “OK” here as well.
13. Now start the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client. First click on the small gear icon at the bottom left.
14. The last option, “Block connections to untrusted servers,” is checked by default. Uncheck this box.
15. Next, enter the address vpngw.dshs-koeln.de and click on “Connect.”
16. The login window will now appear. Please enter your personal DSHS-ID and the corresponding password. Under “Group,” please select ‘Students’ and click “OK.”
17. Once you have successfully authenticated, an active connection will be established.
